VIOLENCE PREVENTION
THE PEACE PROJECT
The Peace Project provides violence reduction opportunities to young people ages 14 to 24 by exposing them to mentors, employers, and peers who provide exposure to new positive experiences and are given opportunities and supports for learning effective strategies for problem solving and communication These programs aim to reduce violence by identifying and intervening with those most at risk.
Community violence intervention (CVI) programs
- Focus on individuals most at risk of being a victim or committing an act of violence
- Use trauma-informed and evidence-based approaches
- Encourage collaboration between community organizations, service providers, and law enforcement
Violence intervention programs
- Identify those who are at the highest risk and work to reduce violence through targeted interventions
Other strategies for preventing youth violence:
- Teaching youths the skills they need to handle difficult situations
- Learning about links between children’s experiences with violence and their health
- Talking with young people about violence and asking how you can support them
- Reaching out to local programs to learn effective parenting practices
