IL Works is a statewide initiative to ensure that all Illinois residents have access to State capital projects and careers, including the construction industry and building trades. It is intentionally designed to increase equity and opportunity in capital construction jobs.  The goal is to provide contracting and employment opportunities to historically underrepresented populations in the construction industry. This effort specifically targets women, people of color, and veterans in the state of Illinois.

Program features

  • Classroom instruction: Learn academic subjects like algebra, reading, and electrical theory 
  • Hands-on training: Work with licensed instructors to develop skills 
  • Certifications: Earn industry-recognized certifications like OSHA 10, NCCER Core, and CPR/First Aid 
  • Stipend: Receive a weekly stipend to help with career transition 
  • Career coaching: Get guidance and career planning from a career coach or counselor

Eligibility Requirements

  • Adults 18+ years old
  • Illinois resident
  • Proof of a High school diploma or equivalent
  • Able to pass a drug test (by the end of the program)
  • Valid Driver’s License
  •  Interest in a career in the construction & building trades
